Learn how to make a simple blood orange syrup that is perfect to put on waffles. Make this with the best in season blood oranges that are available in March/April. Make as much as you want by using equal parts of blood orange juice and sugar.
Juice the blood oranges into a liquid measuring cup.
Measure out equal parts of sugar to the juice you have.
Add juice and sugar to a pot. Bring to a gentle boil. Reduce to simmer.
Cook for 5-10 minutes until the syrup is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. Keep a close eye on it while it cooks.
Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then serve. Store leftovers in the fridge
Notes
Before I juice the blood oranges I like to take some zest off. I use that zest in the waffles I am making for the syrup. You could even add the zest to the syrup to further boast the flavor but the syrup already has plenty of it.
