A Valentine's Day themed waffle board with 3 different types of waffles and 3 different types of dips. Conversation hearts and XO gummies adore the platter.

Creating the Ultimate Valentine’s Day Waffle Board

Waffle boards are an awful lot of fun! They are like meat and charcuterie board but instead of meat cheese, we have fun shaped waffles with different things to dip them in. For Valentine’s Day that means heart shaped waffles, strawberry, and chocolate! Let us show you how we crafted our special Valentine’s Day waffle board so that you can make your very own to cater to your tastes and celebrate the season of love!

What Waffles are On the Board?

For our waffle board we used two different recipes from the blog:

  • Cocoa Waffles
  • Eggless Waffles

We simply chose the eggless waffles because, well eggs are expensive right now. Using oil instead of eggs is a lot cheaper and the waffles still taste amazing. The most important part is the waffle maker that we used to make the heart shaped waffles.

A little purple mini waffle maker from Dash that comes with plates that you can change. The plates are a shamrock, bee, rabbit, sunflower, and heart.

What Waffle Maker Did We Use?

This is a DASH Multimaker Mini System. They have several different models depending on the season. We got our in the late winter time at Costco, so it came with interchangeable plates that had a shamrock, bee, sunflower, heart. and Easter bunny. These are so fun to have because you can make different shapes with just one waffle maker.

I do have to add a disclaimer as we did trim the heart waffles that we used in the picture so that they would look perfect for the picture.

What else is nice about this waffle maker as because the plate pop out, they are easier to clean, which is a really nice perk.

What Dips are On the Board?

Instead of using syrups like you would normally do with waffles, we opted for a variety of different homemade “dips”.

  • Cheesecake Dip
  • Chocolate Buttercream
  • Freeze Dried Strawberry Icing

These were all relatively easy to make. You can find the recipe for the Cheesecake Dip in our post, Strawberry Cheesecake Waffles. The icing is really a fun one as it uses freeze dried strawberries, so it has actual fruit in it. And it’s natural colored. Check out the post – Freeze Dried Strawberry Icing to see how to make it.

Here is how we make the chocolate buttercream:

  • 1 teaspoon Dutch processed cocoa powder
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp hall and half or milk

Make sure your butter is softened, not melted. Mix the cocoa powder into the butter. Then stir in the powdered sugar. Once you have that fully incorporated then add the half & half or milk at little at a time until the texture is the right consistency, you may never more you may need less. While you can use a hand mixer to do this, you could also just do it with your hands and a fork.

More Ideas for the Board

There are lots of different ways you can decorate your boards. We definitely wanted to have sprinkles but it was surprisingly a challenge to find Valentine’s Day sprinkles for us this year. My wife thought to look in a JoAnn’s Fabric store when she was near one and found some there but they didn’t have any at the different grocery stores we looked at. You could always use leftover red or white sprinkles from Christmas.

I got the gummy X & Os and the conversation hearts from Winco Foods. I love their bulk section. If you are out west, you need to go check out on sometime. Fresh strawberries are a welcome addition as well to continue with the red Valentine’s theme. You might even be able to find white pineberries strawberries that would look great alongside the red ones. Sometimes these berries even take on a pinkish color. Cut the strawberries into hearts too if you like.

Here are some other ideas that we didn’t use but you surely could

  • Raspberries
  • Nutella
  • Whipped cream
  • Powdered sugar
  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Chocolate chips
  • M&M’s
  • Strawberry or raspberry syrup or jam
  • Maple syrup
