Give your waffles the glazed treatment with this fresh blueberry glaze. We developed the recipe after getting to pick 10 pounds of blueberry in Washington!
People love shiny things. Why else would people wax their cars! So look at how shiny these blueberry glazed waffles are:

Now only is that a beautiful shine it’s a tasty one as well. Let me show you how to make it so you can start spreading it on your waffles right away!

Ingredients
Here are the ingredients to make the blueberry glaze:
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 stick butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
If you want to replace the brown sugar with white sugar you can do that at a 1:1 ratio. I opt for brown sugar in this recipe as it brings more flavor to the glaze.

The Case for Good Vanilla
This is the case where good vanilla extract is going to make a big difference. Sure you can buy the big bottle of vanilla extract from Costco and save the money and it’s still going to taste fantastic. But that isn’t the best quality extract. A few brands to look for if you want some outstanding vanilla flavor include:
- Rodelle
- Singing Dog Vanilla
- Beyond Good
Each of these companies has vanilla with a great depth of flavor that you will taste in whatever dish you make.

How to Prepare the Glaze
This glaze is simple to make and can be used on any waffle or even pancakes for that matter. I set a pot over medium heat with the blueberries, brown sugar, and butter.

Cook until the mixture begins to thicken. I would say around 10 minutes or so, depending a lot on the water content of your blueberries.

You know that the glaze is finished when it is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon and starts to coat the sides of the pot. The glaze will thicken even more as it cools, after all it is made of butter. Stir in the vanilla extract at the very end.
I like to wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before serving the glaze onto my waffles. You could puree the glaze to make it perfectly smooth with a stick blender, but I like the “chunky” appearance so I don’t bother at all. ‘
Leftovers
If you find yourself with leftover glaze, you can store in the fridge for probably 5-7 days. You will need to re-heat it before using as it will be too thick to spread right out of the fridge since the butter will have completely harden.
